Correlation of inflation-produced magnetic fields with scalar fluctuations

چکیده
If the conformal invariance of electromagnetism is broken during inflation, then primordial magnetic fields may be produced. If this symmetry breaking is generated by the coupling between electromagnetism and a scalar field—e.g. the inflaton, curvaton, or Ricci scalar—then these magnetic fields may be correlated with primordial density perturbations, opening a new window to the study of nonGaussianity in cosmology. In order to illustrate, we couple electromagnetism to an auxiliary scalar field in a de Sitter background. We calculate the power spectra for scalar-field perturbations and magnetic fields, showing how a scale-free magnetic-field spectrum with rms amplitude of nG at Mpc scales may be achieved. We explore the Fourier-space dependence of the cross correlation between the scalar field and magnetic fields, showing that the dimensionless amplitude, measured in units of the power spectra, can grow as large as 500HI=M, whereHI is the inflationary Hubble constant andM is the effective mass scale of the coupling.

We investigate the generation of large scale magnetic fields in the universe from quantum fluctuations that are produced in the inflationary stage. By coupling these quantum fluctuations to the dilaton field and Ricci scalar, we show that the magnetic fields with the strength observed today can be produced. We consider two situations. First, the evolution of dilaton ends by starting the reheat...

متن کاملThe charged inflaton and its gauge fields: Preheating and initial conditions for reheating
We calculate particle production during inflation and in the early stages of reheating after inflation in models with a charged scalar field coupled to Abelian and non-Abelian gauge fields. A detailed analysis of the power spectra of primordial electric fields, magnetic fields and charge fluctuations at the end of inflation and preheating is provided. We carefully account for the Gauss constrai...
متن کاملPrimordial magnetic fields from inflation?
The hot plasma above the electroweak scale contains (hyper) charged scalar particles which are coupled to Abelian gauge fields. Scalars may interact with gravity in a non-conformally invariant way and thus their fluctuations can be amplified during inflation. These fluctuations lead to creation of electric currents and produce inhomogeneous distribution of charge density, resulting in the gener...
متن کاملCorrelated adiabatic and isocurvature perturbations from double inflation
It is shown that double inflation (two minimally coupled massive scalar fields) can produce correlated adiabatic and isocurvature primordial perturbations. Depending on the two relevant parameters of the model, the contributions to the primordial perturbations are computed, with special emphasis on the correlation, which can be quantitatively represented by a correlation spectrum. Finally the p...
